Wee Vintage Wednesday 12/21/2011

Hi there! Another crazy week with a husband who is on call at the hospital what seems every other day.  We are all sick too which makes for fun times. Once again I am left a day late and a dollar short.  Luckily my good husband came to my rescue when he showed me these pictures he took of Rowan the other day.  He was wearing the darling lederhosen pants that I found thrifting a while back.  I think this may be the only chance he has to wear them since it is now the middle of the winter and they are exactly his size now 😦  If any readers are in the market for darling choo choo train lederhosen pants for your little man, I am your gal 😉

It’s hard to see in the photos but there are fun gold buttons that are all totally functional, which I love!

with his curly hair and bare feet I think he looks like a wee hobbit 😉  I love it.

I seriously love that boy 🙂

Happy Wednesday! Linking up to Little Vintage Style.

Holy Knit! It’s a Giveaway!

I love myself a good pun 😉  So, a few days ago I posted that I had begun knitting and that it has become an obsession.  It really has.  I think about it constantly, look up patterns to try every chance I get, download apps onto my phone for knitting on the go, buy reference books…….and yarn……cannot forget the fabulous yarn that is out there.  Oh, and if you have not been on Ravelry yet, get thee hence and join, stat!  Here is my page, friend me! 🙂

Here is my stash…..so far.  There are actually a few more skeins on their way to me.  I have other yarns than these, but these are my “nice yarns”.  Meaning they don’t come from Michaels or Walmart 😉 I bought the Malabrigo from The Yarn Boutique here in Rochester.  I bought the Fuzzy Bunny at the Hearts and Crafts show from a fellow vendor who spins and dyes her own yarn and the Madeline Tosh was purchased on Ebay.

My local crafty thrift shop has loads of knitting supplies so I went this week and loaded up on needles to try.  I took a class at The Yarn Boutique on beginning knitting and it was really great!  I learned a lot and highly recommend taking a class for those who do better with hands on learning *ahem…me.

So then, I had a problem, I had loads of needles and no where to store them.  Then I remembered I had seen a knitting needle roll sometime on Pinterest and thought that would be a great idea!  This is the tutorial I used. I can already tell I am going to need more than one, maybe next one I will enlarge a bit.  Maybe with more rows of pockets.

I decided to add a strap to hold the stitch holders I made that can open and close with a snap.

Here it is all rolled up

fabrics used were

Heather Ross -Far Far Away II

Erin Michaels – Lush (which is getting reprinted I hear!)

Denyse Schmidt – Fairground for Joann Fabrics and Spotlight

Joel Dewberry – Woodgrain

So….stitch markers….how about a giveaway?  Stitch markers are used to keep track of rows in knitting  and crochet.  I have a bead addicted past and was so excited to pull out all my things ti make my own pretty, dangly markers!  I decided that these two deserve to go to a new home.  The lampwork glass beads are made by a fellow Etsian named Krissy.  The headpin is silver.  It is pretty and dangly 🙂  if you want it enter your name.  Only once for this giveaway.  Giveaway will end 12/23 at midnight.

In other news, I have started listing the items left over from the Hearts and Crafts show in my Etsy shop.  I have loads of things ready to ship for the Holidays!

Happy Thursday!

Wee Vintage Wednesday 12/14/2011

Good morning!  I am so glad that I finally got to dress one of my kids in vintage, take pictures and blog about it!  It has been a crazy month to say the least.  This week features my sweet Violet girl.  She has as much fun with it as I do 😉

it has been really warm here in upstate NY and often times just sweater weather! We picked out this sweet vintage polka dot button shirt and paired it with her vintage pinafore featuring a pig with shoes 🙂  Random, but she loves it

.

If you are saying to yourself……… “Hey, I had those same barrettes as a girl!”, you would be correct!  These are vintage Goody barrettes and I now have hundreds……I bought them to sell at the craft show and they didn’t do very well even though everyone loved them.  Oh, well.  More for us 😉

Today is another beautiful day!  Happy me 🙂  Have a fantastic Wednesday.

Just a friendly reminder…..

If you are in the Rochester area and would like to come and check out the Hearts And Crafts show, here is the info

I made and made and sewed and sewed and crafted and crafted until I crashed and I can’t fathom making another thing right now.  I am pooped!  I suppose it doesn’t help that I have a wee little girl who likes to eat several times a night and two children who must catch the bus before it is even light outside…….sigh.

I set everything back up again on my little cafe table and this is the final outcome.  I think it looks pretty inviting and everything is organized and well marked, I still plan on making a few more signs for things, but that is easy peasy.

My sweet husband helped me drill hooks into the back of the printer drawer to run the dowels through  to keep them steady and also had the idea to use a bookend on the back of the drawer to keep it from tipping…..genius, he is 🙂

Hope to see you there.  After a good long sleep I plan to be back with a big long post about my other new love…..KNITTING!  Oh man, I dream of it.  Bye now! 🙂

8 years old and wise

I cannot believe that my first baby boy is 8 today.  I refuse!  It seems like only yesterday that I met him for the first time, it was love at first sight. He healed my broken heart, we had been trying to conceive for years with no luck.  He made me a mother.  Asher is brilliant, funny and cares so much about every living thing, even grass lol!  He was worried it hurt it to walk on it the other day and vowed to take the sidewalk instead.  Such a tender heart.  I love you Asher and I am so glad that you are my little guy 🙂  Happy Birthday Buddy!

p.s. no wee vintage wed…..again……I am barely keeping my head above water, we have all been sick and had a house guest for a week on top of the craft show prep.  I am beat.  Hopefully next week I will be back on track.  Happy Wednesday!

Wee Vintage Wednesday 11/23/2011

Whew, I made it! 😉  Today I dressed Rowan in vintage.  Both his jacket and overalls were found at a thrift shop.  He loves that the jacket has cars on it and I love how the hood looks all cinched up 🙂  I think overalls are growing on me because this is the second pair I have bought for him.  I loved the color (apple green) and the cut of them.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Display, adventures in craft show booth setup

I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a plan for displaying my goods at the Hearts and Crafts show next month. Since it is being held inside a coffee shop, space is very limited and so you need to be creative to come up with ways to best utilize your space and still look good versus you just shoved everything on your table.

I went online and Google searched past shows to try and get an idea of what people have done in the past since it is always been held at the same location.  I got a good feel for the space provided and tried to come up with ideas from there.  Let me tell you that this area is NOT my forte.  Decorating and display are not something that comes easily to me.  I knew I had to find a setup I was happy with so I could see how everything would look and be able to adjust amounts of goods etc.

The table I had at home to try everything out on is about the dimensions of the tables in the coffee shop, a tad bigger, so I had to give myself lots of room knowing that I would have to downsize slightly.

I liked the idea of utilizing the space in front of the table as well that I saw a few people do, so I did that as well.

So, this is what I have come up with so far.  I am still not done and I still have a lot more to do.  I think I want to add some colored paper to the insides of the printer drawer to make the little treasures pop.  Overall though, I like it.  I think……LOL!  That is subject to change.

Happy Wednesday!  I have not had the time/energy to do Vintage this week, but the day is young and maybe I will squeeze something in later……we’ll see 🙂

Have a wonderful day.

Just Keep Sewing…..

Sewing, sewing.  That is my life when my life isn’t kid central.  The craft show is quickly approaching and I am making some progress!  Tonight I worked on some vintage sheet bias binding after going out for a delicious meal with my hubby 🙂  I bought one of those nifty bias tape maker doodads and it has made things go so much more quickly!  Imagine that 😉

I ordered the lovely vintage spool on Etsy and the vintage buttons were a thrifty craft store find.  Happy Monday! 🙂

What are you working on this week?

Awesome Giveaway to Enter

Happy Friday!  I am a little giddy about a bloggy friend’s giveaway she is hosting with Lotta of Stockholm (aka the awesome clog people).  The giveaway is hosted on Naughty Shorts blog.  She is fabulous you guys.  She makes tea dresses (think Mad Men) out of vintage sheets and other vintage fabrics.   They are STUNNING and custom made.  And affordable, so so affordable.

Wanna know what the prize is?  A dress AND a pair of shoes.  AND you get to tell them your perfect combo.  Is your jaw on the floor?  Mine is still.  So GO!  Go enter 🙂  You have until the 14th of December.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Wee Vintage Wednesday 11/16/11

Man, this month is flying by!  We celebrated Rowan’s birthday on the 11th, he turned 2 🙂  I decided I must dress him in vintage for his birthday, I mean, duh……. right?  I found these little overalls thrift shopping last week and thought they were just adorable.  I usually don’t go for overalls, but they spoke to me.

He got a train set from his Grandparents and it has been a big hit to say the least 🙂  He is obsessed with trains.  He has dog like hearing for train whistles, even inside the house he can detect a distant train and will shout “train” over and over until I say I hear it too 😉

look at those chubby cheeks!  Oh man I devour those things daily.  Cannot.stop.eating.fat.baby.cheeks

He also got some toys from us, but compared to the train set they are chopped liver so we won’t even mention them 😉

Oh wait, here is playing with it…..for about 5 seconds……

There was cake and ice cream to be had too.  He managed to blow out his candle all by himself!  What a big boy 🙂  We love this little man, yes we do!
