Ok, I lied

Vintage Sheet Crib Mobile, originally uploaded by joomoolynn.

I am back despite my promise to stay away until after the baby arrives 🙂 I had a burst of nesting energy today and wanted to get the crib mobile checked off of my long list of to-do’s. I used vintage sheets this time and wrapped the hoop in fabric as well.

I made the circles much bigger than usual, I used a jam jar for the template. I really wanted to show off the prints and needed a bigger circle for that.

I also decided to forgo the ribbon and just sew down each circle connecting them into a long string. I thought it would make it look more dainty and feminine than the ribbon.

For the beading I used glass beads in yellow and clear for a more refined look.

I quite like how it turned out and my kids told me it looks like a fancy chandelier. Mission accomplished! 🙂

You too can make your own crib mobile! I have a free tutorial here on my blog with step by step instructions. You can find it here.

Ok, I really am off now……..I think 😉 Only 4 more days to go!

Adios!

Having myself a little vacay

I had lofty lofty goals of posting some new project before this baby arrives later this week, but alas, I have not even started on the many projects I had hoped on completed before then.  I am drained, people.  This is number 4.  The heat is killing me and I am the size of a swollen beached whale.  I am therefore taking a little vacay from all things blog and etsy.  I wish it included drinking wonderfully cold fruity drinks by the pool, but instead will be full of early bedtimes, around the clock feedings, snuggles, hopefully naps and laundry……oh who am I kidding?  This other stuff is much better than poolside beverages!  🙂  I will be back soon 🙂  Have a wonderful week, I will be sure to share when the little bundle arrives!

Who wants some?

Vintage sheets, that is 🙂  I am in the process of putting some scrap packs, pillow cases and flat vintage sheets to my shop over the weekend.  I am also working on some baby quilt kits made out of vintage sheets as well.  Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! 🙂

This is a little sneak peak of the baby quilt I am working on for my little bambina. If I could just motivate myself to baste and quilt it……..maybe tomorrow 🙂

Have a fabulous Tuesday evening.

It’s A Hoot

I had a charm pack and a few half yard cuts of MoMo’s “It’s A Hoot” fabric line in my stash.  I have a friend who recently bartered her mad crocheting skills for a baby quilt.  She is due about 2 months after I am with a girl as well 🙂  I also used some Alexander Henry “Farmdale” for the border and the binding.  It goes together so nicely!  I quilted a simple X through every square and machine sewed the binding on.  It is stroller sized and it is ready to snuggle a baby in 🙂

I am also working on another vintage sheet quilt for my baby!  I cut out loads of squares and will hopefully be putting some quilt kits into my shop shortly 🙂  Here is a sneak peaks of the squares, very summery!

A new thrift shop opened near my house and it is vintage sheet heaven!  I am so excited to go back and buy up some more 🙂  Perhaps I can list some whole sheets in the shop as well as fq’s and charms.  So many ideas, so little time!

I am slowly working on baby stuff, I am down to the wire, only 3 weeks left!  What are you working on this week?

p.s. I am slowly adding more destash fabrics to my shop, head on over if you are itching for something, lots of vintage finds going in there 🙂

Girl Burp Cloths

Girl Burp Cloths, originally uploaded by joomoolynn.

Whipped these up last night/this morning. These were made using cloth diapers (padded prefold Child Of Mine by Carters found at Walmart) and flannel. Tutorial to make these can be found on my blog here!

Happy tuesday!

Summertime

strawberries, originally uploaded by joomoolynn.

Well, my computer is fixed 🙂 That makes me very happy! I felt so cut off from the world not being able to post and browse like I wanted to.

There has not been a whole lot of crafting going on these days. I am due in a few weeks here and I am feeling it. I still have so much to do to get ready for the baby. I still need to make burp cloths and swaddle blankets.

Here is one thing I have been able to tackle 🙂 Making some freezer jam out of strawberries that we picked over the weekend. So yummy! I would however not suggest ever going strawberry picking at 8 months pregnant! Ouch!

Anyone working on something fun this week? Link me up 🙂 Happy Tues!

I knew this day would come

Ok, not really, but my main computer has kicked the bucket.  All attempts are being made to fix it, but who knows 😦  I cannot use any new photos for anything as my photo editing software is stored on my main computer.  It has put a halt to my etsy listings which really bums me out since I still have about two garbage bags full of fabric to list 😦

Other things have been occupying my time as well, such as, my baby girl turning 6 years old and chasing my youngest around outside pretty much all day long.  I have loads of pictures of both, but no way to get them online right now.

I thought it would be fun to go through my flickr and pick out something newish that I have not talked about on here.  I cannot believe I forgot to mention this find!

I know I talk your ear(s) off about my thrifty craft store, but I love it so!  It will be a sad, sad day when I move away and won’t have it anymore.  They have the best vintage stuff all the time.  All.the.time.   Seriously, every time I go in there I find something amazing.

This time, someone had donated a large bundle of swedish and other scandinavian embroidery books.  I bought a few and left a few as well.  This one really grabbed me upon first sight and I spent the car ride home gasping and oohing and aaahing over every single page I uncovered.  This one, I found out after some heavy sleuthing, was made for the Society Of Swedish Homes and patterns are by Foreningen for Svensk Hemslojd.  There are 14 in my package.  They are loose leaf and come in a folder.  There are pictures and instructions (all in Swedish) as well as color recommendations for each pattern.  The patterns call for crewel yarn.  The closest I could find to my patterns were on Rugbooks.(this booklet contains 3 patterns)

These patterns are very large scale.  They fold up to be a bit larger than a piece of paper and when unfolded are a few feet in length.  They are approx. 2 feet in length.  They are so intricate and detailed and lovely 🙂  Seriously, one of my favorite finds of the century.

In other crewel embroidery news, I have been working on the second piece that I will hang up once the baby comes.  This one may be even better than the last!  I adore the color layout in this piece and the peacock (not pictured) is just so lovely!  Hopefully I can get a good picture once my computer is back up running.  I still have a ways to go on this one, I can’t wait to see it all done 🙂

And that’s all she wrote!  Have a fabulous Tuesday and if you are working on anything fun and exciting, link me up! 🙂

Let the great fabric destash begin!

I am seriously whittling down my fabric stash.  It is ridiculous how much fabric I own.  It is not fair to the fabric to be sitting in plastic tubs never to be sewn with 😦  I am listing loads on etsy and maybe ebay as well.  Right now I just have some little scrap packs listed, but as time permits I will be adding other pack and bundles and even yardage.  For my dear blog readers, here is a little coupon code for you 🙂

blogfriends10  good for 10% off your purchase 🙂

Here is my shop Baubles and Bits.  Have a fantabulous thursday!
