I must have a quilt to wrap up in while watching movies. I must. Not optional. All we currently had was huge queen sized quilts or baby sized. I decided on Saturday that I was sick and tired of this and wanted a throw sized quilt for me to use on the couch. Right then. Not later, right that very minute.
I already had the squares cut out from vintage sheets I have been collecting for the last year or so. The backing is another vintage sheet and the binding is Kona cotton in grass green.
It went together so quickly! The top was done in about 45 minutes. The squares are a large 8.5 inches. I even had time to go and buy some more basting spray in the middle of it 🙂 I refuse to pin anymore! I attached the binding completely by machine this time. The back of the binding is a bit wonky, but I am already over it 🙂 I stitched in the ditch on the front to attach it.
I quilted an x through every square, I didn’t even mark them, I just eyeballed it and took it more slowly and it worked out great!
I still have LOADS of squares left over. LOADS. I thought it might be fun to do a giveaway here on the ole’ blog. This giveaway is for (30) 8.5″ squares of vintage sheet fabrics, binding, and vintage sheet backing. (these will probably differ than the stuff I used, but I have lots of cute stuff to work with here 🙂 ) You will need to supply your own thread and batting. I like to use cotton batting like Warm And Natural brand. If you need a good binding tutorial, see my previous post here.
The giveaway starts….now! It will run through next monday at midnight.
Please leave a comment with some way to get a hold of you. If I can’t get a hold of you, I will draw another name. Good luck!
oooh, me me me! love your quilt, i bet it is sooo cozy!

Such a nice giveaway! Love those fabrics! Thank you!
Love your new quilt… so love the vintage feel of it…. Have just started to collect fabrics for some vintage fun… so this would be most wonderful if I was lucky to win!!! :o))
Cute quilt! Love the vintage sheets!
I love your quick quilt!!
The fabric would be wasted on me, so I don’t need to be entered in the giveaway. I just wanted to say that the quilt is SO pretty!
I love this quilt. some of the squares are like sheets and a bedspread I have for my daughters 40 years ago. it makes me a little nostalgic. I shop at resale shops as well as Salvation Army and Goodwill and have very fortunate to find some vintage sheets, but not enough. Thanks for the daily blogs.
Pretty! I’ve been wanting some vintage fabrics!
Wow! Such a great quilt! We have two quilts that are just big enough for one person to snuggle under. One is possibly the ugliest quilt ever made but it was made as a bit of a utility quilt by my great grandmother so I can’t bear to do anything to fix it up. The other is made by me and it was my first quilt.
I am loving all the bright and cheery vintage sheets you used! It looks so warm and snuggly. I have yet to find a good thrift store in Calgary, so no vintage sheets for me yet. I sure hope I win this fantastic set from you!
I LOVE It!! The solid green binding really makes it pop! I’m saving vintage sheets to make a throw right now too!! Oh I hope I win your stash! That would add some real interest to the ones I’ve already collected. Good job! Jenn
What a beautiful quilt! And a great use for those sheets! I never would’ve thought about that possibility for finding fabric for projects. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open when I go thrifting from now on. 🙂
Gorgeous. The lovely colors and patterns remind me of my grandmother when I was a little girl. It’s a feel good thing, right? I am just learning and its frightening for everyone involved, but I would love the opportunity to attempt to make something sweet and special with the squares. Thank you for giving us the opportunity and for sharing your pretty quilt with us. Sew much to sew and sew little time 🙂
Oh that is just the cutest springyest quilt. Would love to have the makings of it. My daughter would truly love it. would love to win it. Please add my name in the “hat”.
Sibyl
Love love LOVE the green binding! And I would love a chance to win the leftover squares–I’ve been collecting vintage sheets with the intention of creating a quilt, but the collection is growing way to sloooowly. 30 squares would be amazing!

gorgeous quilt, I haven’t made a quilt yet, but my mum is coming over on Sunday for a week from Aussie and she’s going to make one with me, so this would such an awesome place to start as I had no idea what I was going to make or what fabrics to use.
I always need a blanket to wrap up in while watching movies! It’s just cozier that way 🙂
I’d love a similar quilt for my couch. I agree, a quilt is a must-have for movie watching!

i think i am in love with those darling prints!! i’ve always, always wanted to try a vintage sheet quilt but never have great luck in finding any vintage sheets. maybe i’m looking in the wrong places?!! i love what you’ve found. totally jealous!
That is simply a fantastic idea! And the time you said it takes to make is very inspiring. Imagine – a piece of gorgeousness like that in one afternoon! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to make a snuggly quilt just like that for the cold weather which is coming here in Australia. Yay!
Those sheets are gorgeous! :O

A quilt in an afternoon?!!! What a dream. And it looks absolutely lovely. I would love to make on like it. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

would love these squares…my best friend needs a vintage bed sheet quilt!
I’m sure you felt springtime hope seeping out of this quilt and into your heart as you were wrapped up! Love it! And a quilt in an afternoon? Fabulous. I’d love to have one too 🙂 thepracticalperfeccionista at gmail dot com
As a long time quilter I must say I can appreciate your imaginative use of vintage fabrics and sheets. I do have one question. Were any of the sheets Percale Cotton? I have never tried to quilt through Percale because I have been told it is difficult because of the tight weave.
I have never used those kind, I usually get the vintage ones which are typically cotton poly blend. I had no problems, though I did notice that the poly does dull your needle more quickly.
I have always wanted to make one of these I just have no idea how to collect them. Thanks for the giveaway.
Hi Natalie! I just browse through the bedding when I go to the Salvation Army and other thrift shops 🙂 Sometimes I am lucky and other times I don’t find anything. It has taken me a long time to find these and on flickr there is a vintage sheet swap that they do regularly. If you can find a few sheets and tear them into fq, you can join a swap and get back lots of variety in return!
I wish to collect vintage sheets, but only have luck in finding pillow cases. So, my vintage stash is small. I’d love to add to it!!! (ericalea@gmail.com)
I love this quilt so much!! I would love to make one myself.
I’d love to win your giveaway ! Then I’d be able to make a qute quilt like yours…love it !
Fabulous job! I would love to make one of these – thanks for the chance!!!
charmachine (at) gmail (dot) com
oo, I’d love to win. 🙂 I’m always envious of people’s vintage sheet collections. The quilt is fabulous, and the green binding is just perfect!
I’m with you… I don’t like to use pins when I make quilts. I’ve been making children’s quilts for an organization called “Kidz Quiltz” and it would be awful to accidently leave a pin in one of them. I would love to win these vintage quilt squares!
tjand38 at gmail dot com
Ooh, I would love, love, love them! I have been wanting to make a quilt but I am always intimidated….this looks like my kinda project….fast! I love how yours turned out Jaime! You are seriously amazing!! Thanks for the chance!

I know what you mean!! Lap quilts are essential for watching shows or movies. Reckon I could put some cute vintage sheet squares to good use, if I’m lucky! 😉

Pretty please??
Lucía

tropical_tiki_goddess (at) msn dot com
Love it! The pictures make me think I should bust out the vintage sheet squares I already have and make a quilt… I think winning your scraps would mean an even bigger quilt!
I’d love to win the vintage sheets! Reminds me of the sheets on my grandma’s bed when I was little…
This could be my first quilt :).
EEk, am I too late?! What time zone are you?!
I’m putting my name in anyway, just cuz it’d be that awesome. I’ve got some vintage sheets of my own that I’ve been hoarding with the idea of making a quilt (or at least a cover for my ripped comforter) so it’d be nice to add some variety there. I’ve never done a quilt before and am more then a little intimidated, so cut already is a bonus indeed!
Man! You are amazing, Jaime! This is so fantastic. like above person said, fabric would be wasted on me as well. but it’s been a while since I’ve checked out your blog so I wanted to see what you’ve been up to. I envy your talents! Xoxo
Thanks Love 🙂
This is such a beautiful quilt with such pretty fabrics, well done!
Please enter me in the giveaway: I love vintage fabrics! Thanks
