*For those of you who want to make a mobile yourself but don’t have the time or resources to gather all of the supplies, I now offer a DIY kit through my etsy shop. The kit includes almost everything to make your own mobile! You just need to supply the paint and your ironing and sewing (optional) skills.

Hi there! It has been a while. I have been feverishly working on this project and it is finally done! I took pictures along the way and wrote up a tutorial to go along with it if anyone is interested. I simply adore this mobile, so glad that I took the plunge, much cuter than anything I saw in the stores.
*Wanted to note that I used two sided woven ribbon. That way it looks good from both sides. I get all my ribbon from Ribbons And Bows Oh My. They have great prices and fast shipping.

**Sewing down the center of the circles is optional. The glue should hold very well, I just do it for my peace of mind :)**
This is when you would the hoop and beads need to be completed and dry. Here is a tip for painting:
*The easiest way I have found to paint the hoop and beads is to use spray paint. To paint the beads I get the floral syrofoam (green stuff) and bamboo skewers. Cut skewers to around 4 inches long. Make sure that beads stay suspended on the skewers and don’t fall all the way to the bottom. If they do, wrap a layer on masking tape in the middle of the skewer to keep them suspended.
Paint top portion of beads and then when dry, flip the beads over on the skewers and paint the other side. This can also be hand done with acrylic paints.
*I use 6 circles for 4 ribbons and 7 circles on the other 4. This way they stagger a bit and look really nice.

This is just adorable! I don’t have any babies anymore, but this would be perfect to adapt for my 12 yo … she wants those hanging beads in the doorway of her room (like the ’60’s), but they’re hard to find and never just the right style. But this would be just right! And, bonus, it’d be a lot less noisy to walk (or run, in her case) through LOL! Thanks!

Hi! 🙂 I cut my ribbons (4) at 25″ and (4) at 28″ . I put 6 circles per 25″ ribbon and 7 circles per 28″ ribbon. I space the circles about 1 1/2″ apart. I stagger the ribbons when I glue them onto the hoop alternating the lengths so that it looks really nice. Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

I’m thinking I could elimate some steps and use scrapbook paper sewn to ribbon instead of fabric. I could elimate the beads at the top and use ribbon…..but I really like the beads and don’t want to make that sacrifice. What are your thoughts about using scrapbook paper?
Sure you could use paper! You wouldn’t have to sew it, you don’t have to sew the fabric either, it is optional. The heat n bond has a really strong glue, it holds up very well. I just sewed for peace of mind.
I was looking for this same idea… I am thinking of using scrapbook paper with my cricut instead, but wasn’t sure if it NEEDED to be sewn or not?? Hi! 🙂 If you used scrapbook paper, you could just use double sided tape or those photo sticker and it would work perfectly, no need to sew at all, you don’t have to sew them if you use fabric either, the heat n bond holds it really well.

Hey, I just found this link, my little one is due next month. I wanted something a little more personal and stumbled upon this! I went and got everything I needed, and i’m starting it now. But I have a question, I want to do the fabric, but I want to add pictures too. How would you do that so baby could look at them?
You could just trace the circle pattern onto the photos and add adhesive strips or sew down the middle of them and mix them in with the fabric circles. The baby might not be able to see the pictures head on, but will be able to see them at an angle.
A friend of my made this mobile and it was so cute. She had it ready for a baby shower, then had each guest write on each circle. We wrote a wish, a dream or a hope that we had for the girls. It was a great idea and I can’t wait to make this for my sister…

HI, I AM ATTEMPTING TO REPLICATE YOUR WONDERFUL MOBILE, BUT I DO HAVE A QUESTION…HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU GET ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY CUT CIRCLES? THEY MATCH UP PERFECTLY IN YOUR PICTURES. NO MATTER HOW SLOW AND CAREFUL I TRY TO CUT THE CIRCLES OUT, THEY DO NOT FIT TOGETHER PERFECTLY. I’M GUESSING THIS IS ONE OF THOSE ‘PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT’ TYPE OF THINGS. 🙂 THANK YOU.
Oh mine are for sure not perfect! I have some wonderful scissors that really help. They are the Gingher craft scissors. They are made to cut through leather and are pretty small. For some reason they cut circles wonderfully.
Another reader had a fabulous tip, she said that once the iron on adhesive is on the fabric and the paper is still intact, you can actually use circle hole punches! Worth a shot 🙂

wonderful! I cut my ribbons at 25 and 28 inches and I added more beads to mine so that it would hang down lower. You could adjust it to fit your room 🙂

I made a jungle themed mobile for my grandson. I used pictures of animals, and for ribbon I used green binding in a zigzag to make vines. I found some ruffles binding in the same material and trimmed out the hoop in it.
