To The Bat Cave!

Hi there!  It has been a while since I last posted.  I have been busy working on crafty stuff but it took a long time to get done 🙂  I have been making Halloween costumes for my kiddos.  My son wanted to be several things before he chose Batman.  This was a case of perfect timing and fate I think.  I had asked my Mom if she still had a pattern for super hero capes that she made my brothers when we were little.  She told me that it had been from a magazine and that it was long gone.  I was so bummed! Then, someone left a comment on one of my photos on Flickr and I went to check out their photostream.  Right there was a picture of the EXACT same cape that my brothers had!!  The SAME one!  I could not believe it.  I asked her where she had found the pattern and get this…….she tells me that she made that cape over 20 years ago for her son!  That it came from a magazine!  And that yes, she still had the pattern and would send it to me!!  I about died 🙂  I was so thrilled.  So when it arrived in the nick of time the other day I found that she had included a batman version!  I finished it a few days ago and my Little Man has only taken it off to bathe, sleep and go to school.  At all other times (like right now at the grocery store with Husband) he has it on.

I found the superhero emblems in a free download from Puking Pastilles.  I made the appliques by using cotton fabrics and heat n bond light to adhere them.  I zig zagged around the edges.  Felt would work as well but I just don’t like how it looks after being washed so I used fabric.

I was going to attempt a mask as well but while at Joann Fabrics I saw one that was pretty awesome and only $2!  I bought more elastic to make it fit better and it is perfect!  Much better than anything I could have done.  I also made the grey pants and I am hoping to whip up some faux boots too.

Sweet Girl’s costume is more “semi handmade”  She wants to be a fairy ballerina.  I am making her a tutu and leg warmers.   The rest I couldn’t handle in my stressed and pregnant state.  As soon as that one is done I will post pictures of that.

I just love Halloween and LOVE that my kids are getting into it now that they are older!  This is so much fun!  I can’t wait until the real day 🙂

This is crazy. My son is Batman this year too… and I made him a cape based on one MY brothers used, that is almost the same!!

That is truly awesome, the cape, your little batman, and the story behind it. Don’t you just love our little internet world?
