Mendocino…..finally

I am finally cutting into my Mendocino fabric! I have all the prints from the line, I have been hoarding them for a few years. I saw Rita and Faith make the most gorgeous modern looking paper pieced star and I knew what I wanted to do with my Mendocino I found the book 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars at my local library, but I do want to get a copy for myself soon. This first block is called Virginia Star.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Love those swimming sisters

The second one is called Wyoming Star.

This one is my favorite so far I love the colors and love fussy cuts of the mermaids and animals.

I plan on just making lots of these until I have a nice sized top. Doing these blocks doesn’t take much out of the beloved stash either since they are fussy cut. You really only need a few pieces per block to showcase them. It’s going to be a great scrap stash buster too. Yay!

Wish.Do.GOOD.Stitches April

The blocks for April for the Wish.Do.GOOD.stitches were chosen to be modern disappearing nine patch. They wanted two blocks this month. These were fun to make. I can’t wait to see them all together and be able to see the whole picture. I love the color selection for these.

PDX Bee

I have two months worth of PDX Bee blocks to show The first one is for Ale was requested to be a star, any size and use all the fabrics at least once. I decided to make a paper pieced star. I got the free pattern from here. She wanted a low volume background. I love it. Low volume is my new obsession. It makes my heart swoon.

The second block is for Megan. She wanted an improv block using up her scrap stash. She wanted any size, non square blocks using all the fabrics she gave us at least once. This one worked my comfort zone a bunch. I love improv but I have not done very much of it. It is hard to not plan anything ahead of time and just go for it.

I am loving this bee! So fun to do something totally different every month.

Knitted me a pair of socks

I have wanted to knit socks since I started to knit just over a year ago. They were the most intimidating project and I held off for many reasons. I really wanted to take a class for toe up socks and do two at a time. Then I met my friend Michele. She very patiently taught me how to make them! I just finished my first pair. They are far from perfect, but I am so glad I took the plunge! I learned a lot of things along the way and little things I will change on the next pair. Pretty awesome.

WISH.do.Good.stitches March Blocks-Wonky Stars

I just finished up my March blocks for my do.Good.stitches charity bee. They are wonky stars and measure 14″x14″. I used this tutorial, but substituted 5″ blocks instead of 2″. Loved making these, couldn’t be simpler!

*fabrics were various scraps. Background fabrics are Kona and RK Essex linen in flax.

Little Layette

This is a little layette set I made for a friend. She had a sweet baby boy about six months ago. Yeah, I am super quick at things…….

The sweater pattern is called Sock Yarn Sweater and the yarn is Malabrigo sock in colorway Cordovan. You can see my project here.

The boots and bib are my own patterns. The elephant fabric is from the Tim and Beck Bungle Jungle line for Moda. Other fabric is a generic stripe from Joann and Joel Dewberry now OOP. The bib pattern is a freebie here on my blog. The boots are a pattern in my Etsy shop. I really love how everything turned out.

Road To Tennessee

Here are my blocks for my Wish do.Good Stitches bee for the month of February. Block name is Road To Tennessee. It has been modified adding an extra row. This is a great stash/scrap buster block! Fabrics are various scraps in blues and greens with Kona greys in the background. The blocks measure 12 1/2″.

New knits

Happy Monday! I have finished a few things I was working on and cast on a few new projects as well. I finished this darling little sweater for my 3 year old last week.

Pattern is called Sock Yarn Sweater. Yarn is Araucania Huasco #2. You can see my project here.

I just finished this hat yesterday and blocked it last night. I have the exact same hat, my best friend saw it and wanted the same thing

Pattern is called Acorns and yarn is Madeline Tosh DK in Celedon. You can see my project here.

I have another Sock Yarn Sweater in the works and also a Simple Pleasures hat. My new friend Michele offered to show me how to do socks, toe up, two at a time. I am beyond excited! Happy knitting!

Triangles up the wahzoo

My friend Amber had the brilliant idea to start a modern quilting bee with some local girls here in Portland. She asked if I wanted to join and I immediately said, YES! The name of the bee is PDX Bee. Amber started us out this month. She is making a solids quilt with all triangles. We were just asked to make an 18 1/2″ square and use the fabrics she gave us. She also requested the flying geese type of triangle with all of them facing up. I loved making this block! I used Faith’s flying geese paper piecing template for the little ones and the larger one from Quilter’s Cache.

I decided to use white space and liked the idea of descending triangles with one large one at the top. I am starting to like paper piecing a lot! It’s really fun to learn a new skill.

Fabrics are all Kona by Robert Kaufman. I can’t wait to see all the other blocks and how it comes together! My month is next month and I am ready to roll! So excited!

Madrona Road Challenge

How lucky am I to have sweet Violet Craft in my modern quilt guild? Very I say She is the nicest, you guys! Such a lovely person. The Modern Quilt Guild is holding a challenge using her lovely Madrona Road collection. The PMQG issued the challenge to us to make mini quilts.

All solids are Kona. The template is by Tab-slot. I quilted everything using approx. 3/8″ distance following the pattern. The back is a strips of solids and Madrona Road. This was a fun challenge! The whole mini quilt measures about 10 1/2″ squared.
